Forest Smart Casual Hotels
Casual Hotels is promoting two ecological restoration projects, located in Spain and Portugal, that aim to recover forests and improve the resilience of the environment to erosion and climate change.
The impact information is presented in a consolidated format for the entire “Casual Forest,” reflecting the combined contribution of both projects to landscape regeneration and environmental sustainability.
Forest of Spain - Teruel
In one of the most extreme and sparsely populated regions of the Iberian Peninsula, Casual Hotels' reforestation project seeks to recover ancient forests. The juniper trees, once used to build colonial ships, have been unable to regenerate due to erosion and adverse climatic conditions. The newly planted species, adapted to these harsh conditions, are growing slowly but surely.
Forest of Portugal - Alentejo
In the heart of the Alentejo region, the Forest of Portugal project seeks to recover land degraded by years of overgrazing and eucalyptus plantations. These intensive uses depleted the soil and reduced its capacity to regenerate naturally. By reforesting with native species such as holm oaks, cork oaks, stone pines, and strawberry trees, the project aims to restore biodiversity and strengthen the land's resistance to fire and erosion, returning balance and life to a landscape characteristic of southwestern Iberia.
